If you have a SSD and a HDD, it is highly recommended to follow this tips to provide a long and useful life to our SSD.
- Move Windows Temporal files
- Right click on Computer and click on Properties
- Click on Advanced system settings
- Click on Environment Variables
- You may see both TMP and TEMP listed in the section labeled User variables for (account) and System Variables. We have to edit both (System and Users), and each User we have to change it too to a new location in the HDD.
- Change Page File from SSD to HDD:

Moving the page file from your SSD to a storage hard drive
- Right click ‘My Computer' and click ‘Properties'.
- Go to the ‘Advanced System Settings' tab.
- Click Settings in the ‘Performance' fieldset, then go to the Advanced tab.
- Click Change in the ‘Virtual memory' fieldset.
- Click on your SSD drive, select ‘No paging file' and click ‘Set'.
- Click OK when you're done.
- First disable the page file as described above.
- Then, click on your preferred HDD drive, select ‘System managed size' (unless you know what you're doing) and click ‘Set'.
- Click OK when you're done.
- Disable System Protection in the SSD
- Right click on the Computer button and click on Properties.
- Click on the System Protection link.
- Click on the available ssd's partitions, that you want to turn System Protection off for, to select it, and click on Configure.
- Click on Turn off system protection and Apply.
- Do not Defrag your SSD
- Do not use Hibernation
Open a command line with Admin priviledges, then:
powercfg /hibernate off
- Move Users folder to HDD. There is several ways to do it.
I prefer to do it copying with the "xcopy" command the folder from C: to D: and
create a junction point from a different admin user, deleting the previous folder from C: and then creating the junction point (this is an example for a user called Avalon):
MKLINK /J C:\Users\Avalon D:\Users\Avalon
Remember: You have to create first the Users folder in D: and then copy your folder inside of it using a different user with Administration Priviledges.
- Move Internet Explorer Temporal files
- Create a new folder to store the files. For example, if you want to store the files in a folder named Ietemp on drive D, create the following folder (for example):
- Start Internet Explorer.
- On the Tools menu, click Internet Options.
- On the General tab, Browsing History, click Settings.
- Click Move Folder and select the new one you have created before.
- Change Chrome temp files:
If you already moved your user folder to the HDD, it is done.
If not: DO IT MOTH*******R!
Edit all your Google Chrome shortcuts (Right click on it, properties) and in start in, add: --user-data-dir="[NEW TEMP FOLDER]"
- Change Firefox temporal files.

in the Firefox address bar
- Right click your mouse and select New String from the Menu. In the dialog box, just type in
as the preference name and the new path to the cache location, for example
- Once this preference is specified, a new directory named “Cache” will be created at the path you set.
